A bit of news that I managed to forget sharing with you (I think I’ve forgotten—now I forget if I forgot!) is that I am the new Region 2 Representative for West Virginia Writers, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to promoting literary interests and writing activities as well as giving voice to the West Virginia people. I’m honored and proud to serve our region (Pocahontas, Webster, Pendleton, and Randolph counties) and support writing and literary efforts here.
One of my duties each year as a regional rep is to organize a local event. After a bunch of emails back and forth about schedules and venue availability, I’m finally pleased to publicly announce the upcoming Youth Writing Workshop for middle and high school students!
The 2018 Youth Writing Workshop will be held at Camp Hidden Meadows in Bartow, WV and will consist of two FREE classes for each age group: one class hour focused on writing fiction, the other class hour focused on writing poetry. Students may attend only one of the hours, but attending both is strongly recommended! Fiction classes will be taught by Eric Fritzius (of Lewisburg, WV), and Poetry by Doug Van Gundy (of Elkins, WV). For more details and to sign up, please visit https://youthwritingworkshop.wordpress.com/. Register soon! It is free! Can’t wait to see you!
We do need to know how many to expect, so please don’t put off registration if you plan to attend 🙂
Happy Halloween everybody! A few things:
First, today only I’m running a giveaway where you can enter to win a free ebook version of each of my books, Little One and When the Watcher Shakes. This is how you enter: Follow me on Twitter (if you already do, you’re halfway there!), then retweet the tweet below:
I will randomly select a winner from all those who have retweeted before 12:00 AM on November 1st 2017, and then I will send that person a direct message via twitter to work out emailing the ebooks. If you are a nook reader instead of Kindle, don’t worry, I can send you an epub instead.
Second, a big thanks to all those who sponsored and attended the West Virginia Book Festival last weekend. I had a blast, met some great people, and got to see some favorite writers speak. I also managed to sell a book or two! I didn’t take a lot of pictures, since my phone was kind of busy being used as a credit card swiper, but here are some photos from the event:
I forgot to bring my phone to Joe Hill’s talk/signing. I also forgot to bring my Joe Hill Special Issue of Cemetery Dance Magazine for him to sign. Kicking myself for both, but mostly the latter.
Anyways it was a lot of fun, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Happy Halloween!
Oh and of course, here is this year’s Jack-O-Lantern from me and Emily to you!
I hope everyone had a great July 4th celebration. Now that the commotion has died down a bit, I wanted to chime in to remind everyone that Little One will be available in thirteen days! (Lucky number, right?) Remember to check Amazon on the 18th. And if you have an ereader and want to get a head start, click here for a sneak peek (current mailing list subscribers should already have received the free preview. If you are on the mailing list but missed it, shoot me an email – [email protected]).
My upcoming horror novel, Little One, will be launched in less than two months! But if you were one of my email list subscribers, you would have gotten an email today containing a link to an ebook containing the first six chapters of the novel.
But it’s not too late! Click the book cover below to receive your free preview delivered to your email inbox!
I know I just posted but there’s already some fresh news for you: my short story, “Animals” has been published in the Spring 2017 issue of Hello Horror. Head on over to their website to read the issue for free!
Howdy! Most of you know by now I’m competing in the Next Great Horror Writer Contest by HorrorAddicts.net this year. As part of the application, I had to enter a 100 word horror story. You can go over to their website now and read all of the entries, including mine, “A True Artisan”.
Click on the banner below:
If you’re into podcasts, you can also follow the contest’s progress by subscribing to their podcast. Episode 1 of this season is up!
My short story, “The Bald Man”, can be found only in The Crossover Alliance’s new anthology, Superheroes, which is out TODAY! You can order digital editions in almost any format directly from them, or you can find the paperback and kindle version from Amazon. Nook lovers out there, you’re not left out in the cold, either. Barnes and Noble has the epub, as well as the paperback, if you want to get it there.
Short on cash? Enter the rafflecopter giveaway, and you might win a free digital copy of this anthology, plus even more!
Like to listen to stories? The Untold Podcast has a free audio edition of one of the stories in this anthology, “The Trojan Initiative” by Clayton Webb.

This Friday is the day that When the Watcher Shakes releases to Amazon in ebook and paperback! That’s less than 5 days! (I have trouble sometimes with countdowns–do you count the day you’re in or start from the next day?)Anyways, remember to sign up for email updates so you don’t miss the release (you’ll also get a free preview of the book). Also, soon after the book hits the marketplace there will be a Goodreads giveaway. Two free signed copies will be up for grabs! I just have to figure out how to work the Goodreads giveaway website. Shouldn’t be too hard.
